Answers in Genesis ( AiG ) is an evangelical apologetic organization of Christian fundamentalism , which wants to defend the Christian faith through a literal interpretation of the first chapters of Genesis in the sense of young earth creationism .

Purpose and work

Originally established in Australia, the organization now has offices in the United States and England. The president of the US organization is the Australian Kenneth Ham. According to GuideStar, an information bureau for non-profit organizations, Answers in Genesis has between 100 and 500 full-time employees, and between 21 and 100 part-time employees and volunteers each.

General accounting with modern society is carried out at the events of the organization. The theory of evolution is presented as flawed and at the same time as the cause of the problems of modern society. Based on biblical foundations, the complex theories of science are conveyed to the layperson in such a way that they should perceive the age of the earth of 6,000 years taught by creationists as an alternative to the 4.6 billion years mentioned by science.

The Answers in Genesis website is the world's best-visited creationism website. It has numerous articles and essays, videos, cartoons , a list of scholars in support of creationism, an archive of magazine articles and radio programs. Answers in Genesis produces a new 90-minute radio program every day that is broadcast by over 1000 stations. Answers in Genesis also publishes numerous books and multimedia, as well as the magazine Answers . Particular emphasis is placed on teaching materials: Answers in Genesis offers study guides for Answers-in-Genesis books, curricula, scripts for lessons, PowerPoint graphics for lessons, and six- and twelve-week online courses.

On May 28, 2007, the Creation Museum opened in Cincinnati , showing the creation of the earth from the perspective of creationism.

The organizations are financed by private donors. According to the IRS 990 Nonprofit Form, Answers in Genesis raised $ 7.7 million in donations and $ 2 million in sales of materials in 2004.

Australian Skeptics Inc. has a critical No Answers in Genesis website as a specific response to Answers in Genesis that is specifically aimed at teachers.

Answers in Genesis believes that all stars and heavenly bodies, including the earth, were formed about 6,000 years ago. In doing so, they reject the theories of the Big Bang , as they conflict with their interpretation of the Bible.

criticism

The scientific community regards creationism as " pseudoscience that has nothing in common with scientific research." The following organizations have criticized creationism and the AiG: the United States National Academy of Sciences , the Paleontological Society , the Geological Society of America , the Australian Academy of Science and the Royal Society of Canada . In response to AiG, the No Answers in Genesis website was created by the Australian Skeptics .

The Louisville Courier-Journal reported that the Cincinnati Zoo and Creation Museum had originally planned a joint advertising campaign. After a storm of protest, the zoo quickly rejected this proposal.
