António Freitas (civil servant, 1973)

António Freitas (born August 5, 1973 in Dili , Portuguese Timor ) is an East Timorese official.

Career

In 1997 he completed a degree in Economic and Financial Management at the University of STIEKN Jaya Negara in Malang, Indonesia . In 2008 he received a Masters degree in Financial Management from the same university.

In 1998, Freitas became an officer in the Dili District Recruiting Department . At that time, East Timor was still occupied by Indonesia. In 1999 it came under UN administration and in 2002 it became independent. Freitas became National Director of the Budget Department in the Ministry of Finance in 2004 and Director General for Analysis and Research in December 2009, where he headed the technical group for the 2010 Census. In addition, from 2009 he was the representative of the Ministry of Finance on the Timor Telecom Board of Directors . In June 2013, Freitas became General Director of the Direcção-Geral de Estatística . He was thus head of the three directorates of the East Timor statistical office. The 2015 census also fell during his term of office. On July 1, 2016, Freitas was replaced by Elias dos Santos Ferreira as General Manager.
