Antonio Nobre

António Nobre (born August 16, 1867 in Porto , † March 18, 1900 in Carreiras , Foz do Douro , Portugal) was a Portuguese poet at the end of the 19th century. He is considered one of the most important neo-romanticists in Portugal.

Life

Nobre came from a very wealthy background. He studied first unsuccessfully law in Coimbra in 1888 and then from 1890 to 1895 political science in Paris . He toured Switzerland and the United States and lived in Funchal , Madeira from February 1898 to April 1899 , where he had moved for health reasons. In 1900 he died of tuberculosis . His main work is the volume of poetry , which was published in Paris in April 1892.

António Nobre also wrote the world-famous phrase: “Quem nicht viu Lisboa, nicht viu coisa boa” ( If you haven't seen Lisbon, you haven't seen anything beautiful ). He is often mentioned in documentaries, articles and books about Lisbon.
