António Augusto Silva Veloso (born January 31, 1957 in São João da Madeira ) is a former Portuguese football player . The right-back, played most of his career at Benfica Lisbon , where he was from the 1980/81 to 1994/95 season. From 1988 to 1995 António Veloso was the captain of his team.
He also played for the Portuguese national football team , where he was also used in the European Football Championship .
His son, Miguel Veloso , who is also a professional footballer, was under contract with Lisbon's arch-rivals Sporting .
