The Portuguese António de Albuquerque Coelho de Carvalho (* 1655 in Lisbon , Portugal , † April 25, 1725 in Angola ) held various administrative posts in Portugal and its colonial empire .

Life

1688 he became Capitão-mor in Pará and 1690 Capitão-mor from captaincy Cuma in Maranhão , Brazil. His brother Francisco de Albuquerque Coelho de Carvalho was governor of Maranhão. Due to a fever, António de Albuquerque Coelho de Carvalho returned to Portugal. There he held various posts: Alcaide-mor of Sines , governor of Beira Baixa and later governor of Olivença . In 1709 António de Albuquerque Coelho de Carvalho came back to Brazil and was first Governor General of Rio de Janeiro , later Governor of São Paulo . After returning to Portugal with little success, António de Albuquerque Coelho de Carvalho became Governor of Angola in 1722. Here he died three years later. His only legitimate son is Francisco de Albuquerque Coelho de Carvalho . António's illegitimate son, António de Albuquerque Coelho , who was born in Brazil in 1682, later held various administrative posts in the colonial empire.
