Antal Melis

Antal Melis (born May 12, 1946 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian rower .

At the 1968 Olympic Games , the Hungarian four-man without a helmsman with Zoltán Melis , György Sarlós , József Csermely and Antal Melis won the second run with over eight seconds ahead of the Italian four-man. In the final, the GDR foursome, who had won the first heat, won with two and a half seconds ahead of the Hungarians, the Italians received the bronze medal. The following year, the Hungarian four-man competed at the European Championships in 1969 with the same line-up as in 1968, with the Soviet four-man winning ahead of the Hungarians and the four-man from the GDR.

At the European Championships in 1971 , Antal Melis finished fourth with the Hungarian eighth . After he was eliminated at the 1972 Olympic Games with the four without a helmsman in the repechage, Antal Melis reached fourth place again with the Hungarian eighth at the 1973 European Championships .

Antal Melis started for the Csepel SC club from Budapest.
