Antanas Napoleonas Stasiškis

Antanas Napoleonas Stasiškis (born September 21, 1933 in Kaniūkai , Utena district ; † February 4, 2016 ) was a Lithuanian politician and Seimas member.

Life

After graduating from high school in Užpaliai near Utena in 1951 , Stasiškis graduated from 1962 to 1968 with a degree in semiconductor physics at Vilnius University . In 1953 he was convicted by the Soviet occupation government and deported to Siberia . Stasiškis ended up as a particularly dangerous person in the Kuibischew , Vorkuta and Taischet camps . From 1960 to 1962 he worked in Vilnius . From 1970 to 1992 Stasiškis was an engineer at the Institute for Mechanization and Automation Projects , “Lietuvos staklių projektas”. In the parliamentary elections in 1992 he was elected as a member of the Lithuanian Parliament .

From 1988 Stasiškis was a member of Sąjūdis . From 1992 he headed the Lithuanian Union of Political Prisoners (lit. Lietuvos politinių kalinių sąjunga ). From 1993 Stasiškis was a member of the conservative party Tėvynės sąjunga . From 1992 to 2008 he was a member of the Seimas, where he was a member of the Agriculture Committee, the Committee on Human Rights and the Committee on National Security and Defense.

His grave is in the Užpaliai cemetery near Utena.
