Antanas Purėnas

Antanas Purėnas (born February 16, 1881 in Tatkonys , Rokiškis district , † November 5, 1962 in Kaunas ) was a Lithuanian chemist .

Life

He studied at the Liepāja grammar school and from 1902 to 1904 studied at the University of Tartu , from 1904 to 1910 at the University of Peterburg (which graduated in 1912). From 1910 to 1918 he taught at the Peterburg Business School. From 1922 to 1950 he taught at the Lietuvos universitetas (from 1930 Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas ). In 1922 he founded the chair for chemistry. From 1939 he was Vice Rector and from 1940 to 1941 and from 1944 to 1946 Rector , and in 1944 Professor of the VDU. From 1951 he taught at the Kauno politechnikos institutas (KPI), was prorector of the KPI, from 1951 to 1962 head of the chair for organic chemistry . In 1920 he was a member of the Steigiamasis Seimas .

His tomb is in the Petrašiūnai cemetery .

family

Purėnas was married to Liuda Purėnienė -Vienožinskaitė (1884-1972), a Lithuanian lawyer and politician.
