The Antarctic flora kingdom , also Antarctica, is one of the seven flora kingdoms of plant geography . In addition to the continent of Antarctica, it also includes the offshore archipelagos such as the Kerguelen and Falkland Islands and the southern tip of South America . Most authors also add New Zealand or at least its South Island. The Antarctic Florenreich corresponds in Tiergeographie the Wildlife of Antarctica .

In contrast to the other flora kingdoms, the Antarctic lacks endemic plant families . Specific elements of the flora are the araucarias (Araucariaceae), barnuts ( Acaena ), Azorella , Gunnera and beeches ( Nothofagus ). Kerguelen cabbage ( Pringlea antiscorbutica ) is endemic to the Kergueles .

In addition to algae, lichens and mosses, there are only two indigenous flowering plant species on Antarctica , the Antarctic Perlwort ( Colobanthus crassifolius ) from the carnation family and the Antarctic Schmiele ( Deschampsia antarctica ), a sweet grass . The annual bluegrass ( Poa annua ) and meadow bluegrass ( Poa pratensis ) are also introduced.
