The Antarctic dragonfish (Bathydraconidae) are slender, pointed-nosed predatory fish that live on the ground. They live exclusively in the Southern Ocean .

features

Antarctic dragonfish have a flattened head. All species lack the first dorsal fin . Depending on the species, they are 13 to 59 centimeters long. There are 45 to 79 vertebrae and one or more side lines . The gill membranes have grown together. The mouth cannot normally be turned forward.

Systematics

The 17 species belong to eleven genera and, according to studies of mitochondrial DNA, to three subfamilies.
