On November 8, 1718, he was prematurely transferred to the subordinate title of his father as 3rd Baron Lucas , of Crudwell in the County of Wiltshire, by Writ of Acceleration , which made him a member of the House of Lords while his father was still alive . In 1720 he received the court office of Lord of the Bedchamber for King George I.

He died in an accident in 1723 at the age of 28 - he suffocated after swallowing an ear of barley . Since he had no children, his title reverted to his father. His widow married John Leveson-Gower, 1st Earl Gower , in 1736 .
