Anthony John Leslie Lloyd, Baron Lloyd of Berwick PC , QC (born May 9, 1929 ) is a former British judge .

Family and education

Lloyd was born the only son of Edward John Boydell Lloyd and Leslie Johnston Fleming. He has been married to Jane Helen Violet Shelford since 1960. He received his education at Eton and Trinity College , Cambridge . In 1948 he joined the 1st Battalion of the Coldstream Guards . He was a member of this until he was admitted to the Inner Temple in 1955.

Career

After several years as a barrister at the Inner Temple, Lloyd was appointed Crown Attorney in 1967 by Elizabeth II . From 1969 to 1977 he was in this capacity in the service of Prince Charles . In 1978 he was appointed a judge at the High Court of Justice and was also beaten to a Knight Bachelor degree . Lloyd held this office until he moved to the Court of Appeal in 1984 .

He was inducted into the House of Lords on October 1, 1993 as Lord of Appeal in Ordinary with the title Baron Lloyd of Berwick , of Ludlay in the County of East Sussex . As such, he was a member of the Appellate Committee of the House of Lords , which performs the judicial functions of the British House of Lords as the Supreme Court and, as a crossbencher , was committed to impartiality. He also chaired the committee that prepared the election of the first Lord Speaker .

In October 1996 he published a report on his investigation into the legal regulations against terrorism. He was a member of the Court of Ecclesiastical Causes Reserved .

He retired in 1999.

On March 27, 2015, Lloyd voluntarily retired and left the House of Lords under the rules of the House of Lords Reform Act 2014.
