Anthophagus is a genus of beetles from the family of the rove beetles (Staphylinidae) within the subfamily Omaliinae . It occurs in Europe with 31 species, 17 of which also occur in Central Europe.

features

The wings and legs of the beetles are brown-yellow in color in most species. Their head is as wide or wider than the heart-shaped pronotum and often has forward-pointing spines in the male. The last link of the jaw probe is not or only slightly longer than the previous one. The claws have a long thread-like appendage.

Occurrence and way of life

The animals live mainly in montane and alpine locations, where they are found in large numbers near flowing water. There they sit on bushes and flowers.
