Anthriel is a Finnish progressive metal band from Tampere , which was formed in 2004.

history

The band was founded in 2004 by guitarist Timo Niemistö, keyboardist Antti Hakulinen and drummer Jari Kuokkanen. At the end of 2008 Simo Silvan joined as a new singer. In August 2010, the band signed a recording deal with Lion Music . The debut album The Pathway was released in the same year . In November and December the band acted as a warm-up for the Raskasta Joulua , a series of concerts at which bands performed metal versions of various Christmas carols. The following year the band took part in the Sauna Open Air . The band later worked on their next album. However, the work had to be interrupted because their rehearsal room, the Deerhouse Studio in Tampere, was demolished. Jari Kuokkanen also left the line-up and was replaced by drummer Henrikki "Hercules" Markkula. In 2017, the second album Transcendence was released, also by Lion Music .

style

According to progarchives.com's CCVP , the band combines classical music, progressive rock and power metal . She was influenced by groups like Symphony X , Dream Theater , Queensrÿche , Ayreon , Yes and Kansas . Mike Seidinger from stormbringer.at assigned The Pathway to Progressive Metal. You couldn't hear the album saying that Anthriel was a newcomer. The release is a concept album referring to The Dark Elf Trilogy by RA Salvatore . In doing so, one drifts "into the classic melodic direction with a sometimes heavy Prog list", whereby the music can be summarized as a mixture of Dream Theater at the time of When Dream and Day Unite and Images and Words , Symphony X and Stratovarius . He also described the release as a "multi-layered, technically perfect, highly melodic over-album". Ian Johnson of rocktopia.co.uk wrote about the debut album that this can compete with releases from Seventh Wonder and Circus Maximus . There is also very melodic Progressive Metal on Transcendence . This time the subject will be the hardships of everyday life. The strong vocals, which make the songs memorable, are particularly characteristic. The keyboards would almost lapse into adult oriented rock .
