Antoine Bovy
Jean François Antoine Bovy (* ≈ December 14, 1795 in Geneva ; † September 18, 1877 ibid) was a Geneva medalist who invented an embossing mechanism with which he could produce medals in previously unknown sizes. He is the punchcutter three today in circulation Swiss coins of fifty cents piece , the Einfrankenstücks and the two-franc piece .
Life
Bovy was born in Geneva to Jean-Samuel Bovy, who was also a jeweler. Jean-Samuel had three sons in total. Antoine Bovy started out as a die cutter in his father's company. In 1824 he was sent to Paris to study with the famous sculptor James Pradier . In 1835 he was naturalized in France and won a gold medal in engraving. He also became a member of the Legion of Honor , because of his medals and the building of railways. Particularly noteworthy is his large medal for Jean Calvin from 1835 on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Reformation in Geneva.

- Medal Johann Wolfgang von Goethe from 1824. This medal was designed by Antoine Bovy at the instigation of the Swiss prince educator in Weimar , Frédéric Soret .
- Jean Calvin medal from 1835, commemorating the 300th anniversary of the Reformation in Geneva.
- Medal Frédéric Chopin from 1837.
- Medal Johann Lukas Schönlein from 1839.
- Medal Escalade de Genève from 1840. This small medallion is not signed. But it is attributed to Antoine Bovy.
- Louis Philippe I medal from 1842 because of the railway laws.
- Franz Liszt medal from 1844.
- Medal Louis-Joseph Gay-Lussac 1850.
- Medal Baron Pierre Charles François Dupin from 1852.
- Medal Georges Cuvier 1862.
