Antoine Parent

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Antoine Parent (born September 16, 1666 in Paris , † September 26, 1716 there ) was a French mathematician . He wrote about three-dimensional analytical geometry in 1700 . His work was published as a three-volume collection in Paris in 1713.

This also includes the concept of shear stresses , which Coulomb later developed further. The triangular distribution of tensile stress when the beam is bent with the zero line in the middle of the cross-section should also be present in his work.

Parent also introduced the angle of friction into mechanics in 1700 . This indicates in a very general way the tendency that the active force may still have if it is to be completely destroyed (according to Otto Dziobek, Fundamentals of Mechanics 1907).

Parent was a member of the Académie royale des sciences .

The year of his death is also given in the sources as 1719 and 1726, with 1716 being probable if his year of birth is 1666, because he is said to have died at the age of 50. According to the biography of 1825 (see weblink), the dates of life would be 1666–1719, who died “at the age of 50”.
