Local transport in Braunschweig
The transport in Braunschweig consists of a tram and a city bus. The city lines are served exclusively by the Braunschweiger Verkehrs-GmbH , the regional traffic is also carried out by other transport companies. Braunschweig is part of the Braunschweig Region Transport Association .
city traffic
tram
The Braunschweig tram network consists of tracks with a gauge of 1100 mm, which is currently unique in Germany, on five lines. The hubs are the town hall and the main train station . The Rathaus stop serves as the main connection point for the tram and bus lines in the evening and on weekends, at these times the lines at the town hall wait for connections. The main station is served by three lines; am Rathaus keep all tram lines, except for the 5 .
The network has a track length of 77 kilometers. The vehicle park consists of 50 railcars and 8 sidecars . To increase capacity, some old high-floor trailer cars are attached to modern low- floor multiple units. The new depot at the main freight station went into operation in April 2009. The area of the old Altewiek depot has been built on with apartments.
The line network with five tram lines has existed since July 12, 2009. Until September 2012, lines 2 and 4 , and until January 2016, lines 1 , 3 and 5 were designated as metro lines.
All tram lines run Monday to Saturday at a basic 15-minute cycle, which during rush hour (Monday to Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.) on lines 1 and 3 through repeater trips (partly on partial routes ) is compressed at approximately 7.5 minute intervals. In the evenings and on Sundays, all lines run every 30 minutes. In the late evening and on Sundays until around 10 a.m., only lines 1 , 3 and 5 run every 60 minutes.
On school days, there are two additional trips with the line designation E between Broitzem and Rühme or Hauptbahnhof. In addition, at home games by Eintracht Braunschweig, numerous additional tracks are offered between the main station and the stadium.
City bus
Braunschweiger Verkehrs-GmbH operates 36 bus routes and a call taxi route in Braunschweig. The hub of the bus routes is at the town hall, where connections are awaited in the evenings and on Sundays.
The bus lines 419 and 429 represent a special feature, which run around the city center as a ring line and were referred to as Metrobus lines until January 7, 2016. These are the only bus lines that run every 10 minutes during rush hour, thus reducing waiting times at the intersection with the radial lines. They are also the only lines that run every half hour after 11 p.m. Among other things, they are in great demand because of their linking function between the main train station, university campus and student residential areas.
Only the main lines are listed below, which also run every 30 minutes in the evening; a complete list of lines can be found on the BSVG homepage.

The other inner-city bus routes usually run every 30 minutes, some have shorter operating times (mostly 5 a.m. - 6 p.m.) and some don't run on Sundays and public holidays. At the terminal stops of the trams, there are connections with buses to districts on the outskirts , even in off- peak hours . In this way, they enable the entire city to be served.
Night traffic
There was no continuous night traffic in Braunschweig from 2001 to November 2014. Sunday to Thursday night, the last all-round connection of the Metrotram and main bus lines takes place at the town hall at midnight.
