On May 1, 1894, took Prussian State Railway the breakpoint Gliesmarode conjunction with the section Braunschweig - My of Brunswick-Uelzen railway in operation. The stop was used exclusively for passenger traffic and was manned by a railway official who sold tickets. On December 11, 1897, he was connected to the Braunschweig tram network . The route was served by the Westbahnhof – Gliesmarode tram line.

In 1913, the construction of a railway line to Celle began , which was to branch off the Braunschweig – Wieren railway line in Gliesmarode. For this purpose, the previous stop was expanded into a separation station from 1914 . In order to create space for the tracks, the incision south of the stop and the embankment to the north were widened. However, with the beginning of the First World War , the construction work was delayed. To distinguish it from the nearby railway stations Gliesmarode West of the Braunschweigische Landes-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft and Gliesmarode Ost of the Braunschweig-Schöningen Railway , the Deutsche Reichsbahn renamed the stop in 1921 Braunschweig-Gliesmarode Reichsbahn . On March 1, 1923, the line to Celle was put into operation. The previous stop was expanded to become a separation station and three platform tracks. To set the switches and signals , a mechanical signal box of the standard design went into operation in the south of the station , which is housed in a two-storey building west of the tracks. On July 14, 1923, the Grünewaldstrasse level crossing in the southern area of the station was secured by a barrier system.

On January 1, 1938, the Deutsche Reichsbahn established a connecting curve from the Gliesmarode Reichsbahn station to the Gliesmarode West station on the route to Fallersleben north of the station . The station received an additional signal box of the standard design in the north, which was housed in the reception building. It took under the name Gnf the function of the dispatcher signal box , while the existing signal box as Gs for guards Interlocking was. In 1941 the addition to the name Reichsbahn was deleted and the station was only called Braunschweig-Gliesmarode .

On May 27, 1962, the German Federal Railroad stopped passenger traffic on the route towards Celle. In 1966, the DB began redesigning the tracks in the northern area of the station. The railway line to Wieren was newly connected to the main line to Celle via a switch and the switch connections between the main tracks were partially relocated to the north. As a result, track 3 could now accommodate long freight trains for train crossings on the line to Fallersleben. In 1968 the DB was able to complete the station renovation.

From 1988 to February 1990 , a new underpass for Hans-Sommer-Strasse was built in the northern area of the station, directly north of the previous underpass of Berliner Strasse. During the construction work, only one of the main tracks was accessible at the same time above the underpass; the Deutsche Bundesbahn laid provisional switch connections to connect the remaining platform tracks. After completion, most of the road traffic was routed through the new underpass; only the tram remained in the old underpass.

In 1991, the German Federal Railways on the railway Celle-Braunschweig the freight behind Harvesse one, in 1992 was followed by the setting on the section of Brunswick-Boast up Harvesse. The remaining section to Braunschweig-Rühme remained in operation as the access to the port . After the Weddeler Loop went into operation , Deutsche Bahn shut down the line to Fallersleben in 1998, only the section from Gliesmarode to Braunschweig Ost (formerly Gliesmarode West) remained in operation for the time being. As a result, train traffic at Gliesmarode station fell sharply and parts of the track system were no longer required. In March 1999, track 1 was closed.

As of December 31, 2000, Deutsche Bahn stopped transporting residual goods to Braunschweig East. The main line to Braunschweig Ost was closed by a buffer stop in May 2002 and finally dismantled in autumn 2005. In 2014, Deutsche Bahn dismantled the switches to the disused track 1 and the line to Fallersleben. Track 1 was preserved in fragments in the platform area. Today there are still two tracks in the station, so that crossings on the single-track route remain possible.

Redevelopment

From 2018 to 2019, the Braunschweig-Gliesmarode train station is to be extensively renovated and rebuilt. In the future, the frequency of train traffic is to be increased. The platforms are to be rebuilt and barrier-free access created. The weather protection and lighting are being renewed and information technology is being installed.

The area is to be developed into an important transport hub . A new station forecourt is to be built on an adjacent wasteland, which is to be connected to Karlstrasse, among other things. The currently separate bus and tram stops are to be converted into a combined stop for trams and buses. Infrastructure for local supply is to be built. Taxi ranks and car sharing parking spaces are being set up.
