The honeycomb in Gliesmarode
|
Gliesmarode is a district in the east of Braunschweig .
history
Gliesmarode lies directly on the historical borderline that separated the ducal-Braunschweig area from the area of the city of Braunschweig. Due to its location, the place suffered from the disputes between the dukes and the city. The Gliesmaroder Tower , built in 1406, was a steadfast defensive tower in the ring of the city's defensive structures, known as the Braunschweiger Landwehr .
Gliesmarode was also mentioned in a document for the first time in 1031 with the magni- document . Derived from the personal name Glismoth (glisian = shine, mod = courage, red = clearing) the place name Glismoderoth is created . Over the centuries it has been modified frequently. Glissenroe was still used in dialect, i.e. Low German , at the beginning of the 20th century . The Braunschweig Police Department has its headquarters in Gliesmarode .
Today Gliesmarode is in the Wabe-Schunter-Beberbach district .
geography
The brook Wabe flows through Gliesmarode with its brook Mittelriede .
In the north Gliesmarode borders on Querum , in the east on Volkmarode , in the south on Riddagshausen and in the west on the eastern ring area .
climate
Gliesmarode lies within the temperate latitudes in the transition area between oceanic and continental areas.
traffic
The B 248 runs through Gliesmarode as an east-west connection, on which the tram route also runs. From north to south there are the L 625 and L 293 . On the western border which runs Brunswick-Uelzen railway with the station Gliesmarode .
Personalities of the place
- Rudolf Claus (1893–1935), resistance fighter against National Socialism
- Manfred Reese (1931–2017), politician (SPD)
coat of arms
The coat of arms is based on the border position of the place in the middle, from top to bottom, divided by a wavy line into the colors red and white (in heraldry silver). It shows a stone round tower with three pinnacles, which is also divided, but the colors are swapped here. The wavy line symbolizes the proximity of the place to the water, as both the honeycomb and the central ridge run parallel here. The colors red and white are on the one hand the city colors of Braunschweig, on the other hand they symbolize the centuries-old relationship to the Riddagshausen monastery . The Cistercian monastery held the basic rights to the place from the 12th to the 18th century. The coat of arms was confirmed on October 16, 1980 by a citizens' meeting. It was designed by Arnold Rabbow.
