Significant transfer points are the stops king place in the city center, Bf. Wilhelmshöhe , Hauptbahnhof , Platz der Deutschen unit Ihringshäuser street and Dutch Street. The city of Kassel is part of the North Hessian Transport Association .

On March 25, 2018, a major reform of the previous network was implemented with the name "Kasseler Linien". The changes particularly affect inner-city bus and tram traffic in parts. Exceptions are the regional bus connections and the RegioTram.

Current transport offer since December 15, 2019

Rail transport

Regional traffic

The regional transport lines mainly provide connections to the surrounding area, such as to Göttingen. In addition, regional express trains also connect Kassel with other metropolitan areas, according to Frankfurt. The starting point is the Wilhelmshöhe train station and the main train station. However, individual lines do not serve both stations.

The RegioTram Kassel runs on three lines within the city of Kassel and on railway lines in the North Hesse region. The RegioTram uses the tram tracks within the city of Kassel and switches to Deutsche Bahn railway lines at Kassel main station. On the railway lines, the RegioTram stops within Kassel at the following stations or stops: Hauptbahnhof (RT1, RT4, RT5), Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe (RT5), Kassel-Kirchditmold (RT1, RT4), Kassel-Harleshausen (RT1, RT4), Kassel-Jungfernkopf (RT1, RT4) and Kassel-Oberzwehren (RT5).

tram

The Kassel tram runs on seven lines within the city and on sections of the route in neighboring communities and cities. Some of the trams run on former railway lines. In addition to the sections routed in this way, many routes run on their own tracks, which the tram does not have to share with individual traffic, so that the Kassel tram has a light rail-like appearance. The network of "Kasseler Linien", the new marketing name, started on March 25, 2018 and comprises 8 tram lines.

Expansion plans

The last extension of the route went into operation on October 23, 2011. Tram line 1 now runs over Holländische Straße to Vellmar- Nord. There are also plans to build a new tram line in the Waldau district from the Platz der Deutschen Einheit stop. According to interim planning by the Kasseler Verkehrsgesellschaft, no classic trams should run on this section of the route, but the RegioTram, which ran to the final stop Leipziger Straße until 2015. These lines are now operating as reinforcement on the Holländische Straße, so that their use on a possible expansion of the route network to Waldau appears uncertain. There are also discussions about an extension of line 4 via the final stop Druseltal to the Hercules, Kassel's landmark. Concrete plans have not yet been drawn up, especially since the eligibility of such a project, which is of purely touristic value, currently appears uncertain. With the VEP 2030, the construction of a tram connection via Rothenditmold to Harleshausen is back on the urban transport policy agenda.

Bus transport

The city of Kassel is the starting point for many bus routes to neighboring communities and cities. In addition to these regional bus routes, some parts of the city that are not connected to the tram network are connected by bus routes that also serve the city center. In addition, there are some district buses that connect some settlements to the nearest tram stop. Bus traffic in and around Kassel is mainly served by Kasseler Verkehrs-Gesellschaft and HLB Busverkehr Hessen. Some trips are also assigned to various subcontractors. The city bus network was also significantly changed with the start of the Kassel lines.
