In the urban area of Saarbrücken there are eight train stations and stops that are served by the regional trains ( regional trains and regional express trains) operated by Deutsche Bahn AG .
These are on the Mannheim-Saarbrücken (KBS 670), Saarbrücken-Neunkirchen-Türkismühle (Nahetalbahn) (KBS 680), Saarbrücken-Trier (Saar line) (KBS 685) and Saarbrücken-Sarreguemines (KBS 684) routes .

Since December 9, 2012, the Saarbrücken-Burbach Mitte stop has also been served by regional trains on the RB 71 line, increasing the number of stops in Saarbrücken served by Deutsche Bahn AG to eight.
Three other train stations in the city of Saarbrücken (Saarbrücken-Brebach, Saarbrücken-Güdingen and Saarbrücken-Bübingen) are served by light rail trains.

Line overlaps and reinforcement trains in rush hour traffic sometimes result in 10 to 30 minute intervals in the urban area of Saarbrücken.
Since the summer of 2009, the Dillingen - Saarbrücken - St. Ingbert route has been served every 30 minutes, so that in the greater Saarbrücken area there are more frequent lines due to overlapping lines.
All of these routes are served by modern class 425/426 electric multiple units or class 642 diesel multiple units.

Additional information
The Saarbrücker Stadtbahnnetz, a network based on the Karlsruhe model , is unique in several respects: the Saarbrücken Stadtbahn is the first to connect the light rail and rail network and is operated solely by low-floor cars. It is also the only international and the longest solo line.

City buses
The Saarbahn GmbH , the municipal transport company in Saarbrücken, and the Völklinger transport companies (VVB) operate about 50 city buses in Saarbrücken. As part of the standardization of line numbering throughout the Saarland, these bear the numbers 101–189, with the exception of line 30, which crosses the network and crosses the state.
They serve to connect the urban districts that are not served by the light rail system, the inner-city traffic between non-rail-bound locations and, secondarily, the connection of the state capital to neighboring communities and cities.

On most lines, the frequency is increased in the morning rush hour. School traffic is operated with 800 line numbers (partly articulated, partly standard buses).
Transport and tariff association
All public transport that operates in the area of the state capital Saarbrücken is - like all other public transport in the entire Saarland - part of the Saarland Transport Association and can therefore be used with one ticket.
(Almost) the entire area of Saarbrücken lies in honeycomb 111 (Saarbrücken large honeycomb). The extreme north-west of Klarenthal (towards Fenne ), as well as a stop in Altenkessel , belong to Wabe 191 (Großwabe Völklingen )
Future plans & visions
The traffic development plan 2030 of the state capital Saarbrücken provides for the expansion of the city railway as well as the creation of a S-Bahn "Saarbrücken" . The previous regional railway lines are to flow into this network, as well as new connections. Based on the data from the VEP, the representation of the vision of Saarbrücken public transport in 2030 was visualized. However, it is unclear whether the necessary funding will be made available. As with all larger projects in Saarbrücken, financing plays a major role.
