Brebach train station tracks.jpg

The Brebach station is the station of Saarbrücken district Brebach-Fechingen with adjacent bus station . It belongs to station category 6 of the Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) and has two platform tracks , one platform-free track and two feeder tracks to the Saarbahn operating workshop. The Brebach signal box of DB Netz AG can also be found directly on the platform. The station is located in the area of the Saarländischer Verkehrsverbund (saarVV) and has been served exclusively by the Saarbahn since 1997, whose inner city route through Saarbrücken branches off from the main Saarbrücken – Saargemünd line here. The French TER trains from Saarbrücken Hbf via Saargemünd to Strasbourg pass through the station without stopping.

location

The train station is located in the far northwest of Brebach and borders the Daarler Wiesen . The East Harbor (including with yacht - sailing , and canoeing facility ), the nightclub silo and the ruins of the Roman fort are within walking distance. The rest of the Brebach-Fechingen area is served by connecting buses. The station is located at the junction of the Saarbahn with a system separation point or the railway bridge from the Roman fort to the Ostbahnhof .

history

With the law of March 9, 1867, the construction of a railway line from Saarbrücken to Saargemünd was decided. The necessary state treaty between Prussia and France was signed on July 18, 1867.

On June 20, 1960, electrical operation was started on the Saarbrücken – Sarreguemines railway line from Saarbrücken Central Station to here , as one of the first lines in Saarland . It was not until September 11, 1981 that the Brebach– Hanweiler-Bad Rilchingen section (state border) was electrified. From September 1983, continuous electrical operation was possible as far as Saargemünd. From now on, RB / RE trains ran every quarter of an hour to Kleinblittersdorf and RE trains to Strasbourg or Sarralbe via Saargemünd every half hour .

In 1997 the Saarbahn went into operation, which also serves the Saarbrücken – Sarreguemines route. In this context, the Saarbrücken-Brebach train station was renamed Brebach . The remaining platform enabled barrier-free access to the trams and did not have to be rebuilt. An elevator to the underpass was installed, the bus station expanded to six (later eight) bus platforms and a taxi stand and a park & ride facility were set up.

A siding to the Römerbrücke thermal power station , which was built in 1991 but never used, was formally in place until 2011. Then the city of Saarbrücken removed the warning signs on the “useless level crossing ”. In fact, parts of the facilities were already so damaged that they were unusable. Other junctions to the Halbergerhütte and a specially constructed Saar bridge to the Unner had already been shut down.

Bus station

Bus station

At the modernized bus station , buses from Saarbahn GmbH , Aloys Baron GmbH , Saar-Pfalz-Bus GmbH and also the rail replacement service (SEV) operate .

Role as a transfer hub

The Brebach station acts as a transfer hub and is fully aligned with the Saarbahn. Direct bus connections to the Saarbrücken city center have long since ceased to exist due to a lack of demand. Once at the train station, passengers leave it and usually travel by bus to the center of Brebach or to the neighboring districts of Güdingen (line 126, next to Saarbahn), Fechingen-Nachtweide (130), Bübingen (131, next to Saarbahn), Bischmisheim (137) Eschringen , Ensheim or Ormesheim (120) or to the airport (R10). Changes between the individual bus routes are rare exceptions. Especially in the mornings in school traffic , there is a lot of activity here: 22 buses arrive within 15 minutes, and their passengers want to change to the Saarbahn. Because of this special logistical role, consideration was given to employing Deutsche Bahn AG conductors at peak times . After the main train station and the Johanneskirche , the Brebacher Bahnhof is already the third busiest hub in Saarbrücken.

Bus platform F / at the Rot Schanz

The stop An der Rot Schanz / Brebach Bf F (until 2012 Rot Schanz ) is only served by line 146 from Bliesransbach and by school bus routes and offers two additional bus platforms in Saarbrücker Straße , which are served if there is no connection to the Saarbahn you have to, because you can save the time of a turning drive through the actual bus station. School buses, which provide a connection to the Saarbahn, run on the usual bus platforms at the bus station.

Bus platform S / rail replacement service

If it is not possible to operate the route (e.g. due to operational disruptions at DB ), buses are used for rail replacement services. Depending on the situation, different bus platforms can be used: If Brebach is the start / end point of a closure, the buses run on the bus platform S (house bus platform next to bus platform A), but if Brebach itself is also not passable, the rail replacement bus uses bus platform F (bus stop An the Rot Schanz / Brebach Bf F ). In addition, the bus journeys on the feeder lines, which usually end at the Brebacher bus station, will be extended to the Roman fort and transfer operations will be handled there.

Saarbahn GmbH's workshop

Saarbahn operating workshop

The depot of Saarbahn is located right next to the station Brebach so that the station in the morning as the start and in the evening serves as a destination station. Until 2005, a DB locomotive hall at Saarbrücken main station was used as a maintenance hall for the Saarbahn. Preliminary investigations into their renovation were carried out. For economic reasons, however, the company decided not to do so and instead bought the property adjacent to the Brebach train station (which had previously been used for outdoor parking) from DB and built a new workshop for 10 million euros, which was completed in 2012 after six years . This has six work stations with pits, platforms, an underground lifting system, four crane systems and a washing system in a separate building. Social and administrative wings are integrated into the elaborately designed, three-story building.
