Bisten is the smallest district (municipality) of the municipality of Überherrn in the Saarlouis district ( Saarland ). Bisten was an independent community until the end of 1973.

Bisten is located on the river Bist , right on the border with France , at the foot of the Saargau , below Berus , right next to Überherrn .
history
Bisten was first mentioned in a document from the Wadgassen Abbey from 1221. In a letter from Pope Honorius III. to the abbey this "patronage rights" are confirmed to a chapel in Bisten. This chapel was located on the site of today's village cemetery.
As part of the regional and administrative reform in Saarland , the previously independent municipality of Bisten was assigned to the municipality of Überherrn on January 1, 1974.
Personalities
MEP Jo Leinen comes from Bisten . The politician who works for the SPD in the European Parliament was born here on April 6, 1948.
Michael Kunzler , Catholic priest and professor for liturgical studies at the theological faculty in Paderborn, lived in Bisten .
