Local transport in Hanover

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The public transport in Hannover ( PT ) is influenced by various modes of transport provided Within Hannover , these are the light rail and city buses of ÜSTRA . The Hanover region is served by regional trains, the S-Bahn and regional buses of the RegioBus Hanover .

The Hanover region is responsible for public transport . The Hanover region has merged with the transport companies operating in the Hanover region to form the Verkehrsverbund Großraum-Verkehr Hannover (GVH). The current local transport plan for 2015 runs until the end of 2019.

Rail transport

Regional trains

The rail-bound regional traffic in the Hanover area is carried out by DB Regio , Metronom Eisenbahngesellschaft (also with its brand enno ), erixx and Westfalenbahn . Until the timetable change in December 2014, the lines were star-shaped starting from Hanover with R1 to R 15 (with gaps), but the numbers were only used in the timetable book. The new nationwide numbering system has been in use since December 2014.

DB Regio runs on the RE1 / RE8 lines, until December 2015 it also ran on the RE30 and RE60 / RE70. On the two-hourly overlapping lines RE1 / RE8 and RE60 / RE70, electric locomotive hauled trains with double-deck cars are and were used. Since December 2010, the hourly RE30 line has mainly used class 425 multiple units and, to a lesser extent, class 143 electric locomotives with push -pull trains made up of old-style local vehicles ( n-cars ). The Metronom Eisenbahngesellschaft has been operating the line with multiple units of the Alstom Coradia Continental type under the enno brand since December 13, 2015 . Lines RE60 / RE70 operates since December 2015 WestfalenBahn with double-decker Kiss -Triebzügen.

The regional express train of the former line to Halle (Saale) via Goslar and Halberstadt was driven by class 612 diesel multiple units (RegioSwinger) . The regional express trains to Bad Harzburg in between consisted of class 218 diesel locomotives and 5 n cars. Since December 14, 2014, the RE10 line has been running every hour from erixx with LINT 54 trains.

The hourly line RB38 has been operating the erixx with LINT 41 trains since December 11, 2011 .

The Metronom Eisenbahngesellschaft operates the RE2 Göttingen – Hannover – Uelzen line. The trains run between Hanover and Göttingen every hour. This line has only been running every two hours between Uelzen and Hanover since December 9, 2018, and has been supplemented by the RE3 Hamburg - Hanover line, which also runs every two hours. On November 15, 2009, Metronom was the first railway company to introduce a ban on alcohol consumption on its trains. Used electric locomotives of Class 146 hauled trains with double-deck coaches. The trains were procured by the regional public transport company of Lower Saxony and rented to Metronom.

The RB77 line is operated by the NordWestBahn ; it does not affect the area of the GVH and is only included in the larger tariff via the regional tariff. The connection is known in North Rhine-Westphalia as the Weser Railway . Two-part LINT 41 diesel multiple units operate .

Train

S-Bahn S 2 class 424 in Nienburg / Weser

The S-Bahn was introduced in connection with the Expo 2000 . After several extensions, the network has consisted of seven lines in regular operation since December 2013, there are also two sprinter lines and one event line. In addition to the Hanover region, the network encompasses other areas and extends far into North Rhine-Westphalia with the S 5 line (end point Paderborn ). There is no continuous S-Bahn or network tariff, especially the sections in North Rhine-Westphalia are subject to different tariffs (or the general DB local transport tariff ). Outside the core area, the difference to the regional train is small, as the stopping distances, frequency and vehicles are similar.

Lines

The trams usually run every 60 minutes. With the S 4 and S 5, the cycle sequence is shortened to a 30-minute cycle on each section. Due to the overlapping of several S-Bahn lines, there is at least a 30-minute cycle on the main lines in the core area of the network.

The S-Bahn is operated by DB-Regio. It uses class 424 and 425 electric railcars .

In addition to the main train station, there are ten S-Bahn stations in Hanover, most of which arose from the former suburban train stations. Only S-Bahn trains stop at them today. Long-distance and regional trains also stop at the Hannover Messe / Laatzen station in the Laatzen area . The Hannover Airport Station in Langenhagen is the only station in a tunnel. It is a double-track terminus station that connects to a single-track line.

Some earlier suburban train stations were abandoned and replaced by nearby S-Bahn stations: Hannover-Herrenhausen by Hannover-Ledeburg, Hannover-Wülfel by Hannover Messe / Laatzen, Hannover-Hainholz by Hannover-Nordstadt station . The old Hannover-Linden train station was also given up and replaced by today's H-Linden / Fischerhof S-Bahn station . In H-Anderten-Misburg , the S-Bahn stops at new tracks, the old station building is no longer used for rail purposes; the same applies to the historical buildings in the train stations in Hannover-Leinhausen and Hannover Bismarckstraße.

The Hanover region endeavors to connect the S-Bahn and Stadtbahn as well as possible. This is how the combined stations Karl-Wiechert-Allee , Nordstadt and Linden / Fischerhof were created . Outside of Hanover, there is a transition option between the S-Bahn and Stadtbahn at the Hanover Messe / Laatzen station and at the Rethen station.

Further S-Bahn stations are planned at Döhrener Turm and Braunschweiger Platz , where transfer options to the existing light rail stations are to be created.

Light rail

Stadtbahn network since December 2017
City railway TW 2000

The Üstra operates on the rail network twelve rail lines and two lines required. The standard-gauge track network has a route length of 127 kilometers, 19 kilometers of which run in tunnels (15%), 88 kilometers above ground on a separate track (69%) and 20 kilometers without structural separation from other road traffic (16%). Of the 197 stops (at the end of 2015), 19 are underground stations (one of which is in an incision), a further 128 are equipped with elevated platforms. The backbone of the light rail is the inner-city tunnel network, which consists of three routes. The Kröpcke underground station is the most important station and the central hub of the network, where all three tunnels intersect.

Lines 10 and 17 do not travel through tunnels, but rather run above ground into the city center on mostly road-flush railway tracks . The future of this route, which passed in front of the main train station , was discussed for a long time. The Hanover region decided against the realization of the originally planned fourth inner city tunnel. The route is currently being renovated and rebuilt. The section from the main train station to Aegidientorplatz has been closed and replaced by a new line to Raschplatz.

During the day, the trains mostly run every 10 minutes. Evening from about 20 pm and on weekends is run in 15-minute intervals, in the off-peak time from about 23 am until closing time to 12:30 at 30-minute intervals. On the nights from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday, night star traffic (NStV) with hourly trips is offered. The lines that run on the same route close to the city center are offset by half an hour, so that the most important sections of the route run every 30 minutes. All lines of a cycle meet at the Kröpcke and are scheduled to stay there for 5 minutes, so that at this central station it is possible to change between them without waiting.

In the off-peak time , the lines 2 and 8 run in the Y-traffic . A two-car train is separated at a stop (here Peiner Straße ) in order to serve various branches of the route with the single cars. The two railcars run on the routes to Messe / Nord and Rethen and are reunited in the opposite direction to form a common train towards Alte Heide .

Different color codes are assigned to the basic routes, which are used in the route network maps and in the stops: A route B route C route D route

Bus transport

The Üstra connects a total of 38 lines with around 510 kilometers of 669 stops with 128 of its own buses and other buses from subcontractors. In 2010, more than 12 million vehicle kilometers were covered. The buses carry 140,000 passengers every day. With around 250 of its own buses and around 700 employees as well as another 130 vehicles from subcontractors, RegioBus Hannover GmbH operates the surrounding area in the Hanover region. It serves around 120 bus routes and carries around 30 million passengers a year.

City bus

Within the city of Hanover, Üstra operates 19 city bus routes in addition to its light rail network. At the tram stops out of town, especially at the terminus, Üstra offers secure, platform-level connections between tram and bus via its computer-aided operations control system BON. The ring line 131 (or in the opposite direction 132) was renamed in December 2006 as an adventure line based on the model of the Berlin bus line in 100/200. It connects several sights with each other and is thus similar to a city tour at the normal city rate. For Maschseefest an additional event line is used 267 between Kröpcke and Maschsee / beach. All vehicles are low-floor buses with a ramp. In some cases, the üstra also runs on individual lines in the Hanover region, in front of the former tram lines: in Sehnde, Laatzen / Pattensen and Langenhagen.

Braunschweiger Platz stop with BUSSTOP and Solaris bus

Üstra has different types of buses in its fleet. For Expo 2000 were by James Irvine designed Citaro buses from Daimler-Benz acquired. There are four variations of it: a twelve meter long solobus X 12 (8 of diesel and natural gas buses 38), and a 18-meter articulated X 18 (of which 37 diesel and natural gas 16-buses). Many buses of this type have already been parked.

As of 2006, Üstra 53 purchased the twelve-meter-long Urbino 12 solo buses from the Polish manufacturer Solaris .

From 2008, Üstra bought 39 articulated buses of the MAN Lion's City type . The buses have 47 seats and 107 standing places. There are also 13 Citaro I. There are also five different articulated buses and a solo vehicle for RegioBus lines.

After a trial run of a Solaris Urbino 18 Hybrid bus , another ten Solaris hybrid buses were purchased in mid-2011. The higher acquisition costs compared to conventional diesel buses were financed from funds from the Federal Ministry of Transport . The buses are used on line 121. In 2013 üstra got nine Solaris Urbino 12 hybrids and nine Solaris Urbino 18 hybrids.

The Üstra buses are housed in two depots: the Vahrenwald bus depot on Vahrenwalder Strasse and the south bus depot in Mittelfeld . In the former, there is a gas - gas station , so here all CNG buses are stationed.

The üstra lines are only served by low-floor buses with ramps.

Regional bus

Setra Regiobus

The regional bus routes in the Hanover region are mainly operated by RegioBus Hanover , the rest by üstra . The lines secure the local transport connections of the cities and municipalities outside the city of Hanover if they cannot be reached by rail.

Only the three express bus lines (RegioSprinter) of lines 300, 500 and 700 go to the center of Hanover and end at the central bus station on the north side of the main station. In addition, the connection of the other municipalities to the regional center of Hanover will be established by linking the regional lines with the S-Bahn and the light rail at their endpoints. Some of the lines go beyond the junction into the city of Hanover.

The RegioBus Hannover GmbH continues with 255 own buses and employs about 125 buses out of order companies. The RegioBus buses are all equipped with low-floor technology and 251 of them also have a fold-out ramp to enable passengers with reduced mobility to board comfortably. Mainly solo buses and articulated buses on some heavily used lines are used. The journeys of the RegioBus lines 300, 500 and 700, the city bus lines 501 and 502 in Barsinghausen as well as the city traffic lines 964, 965 and 966 in Lehrte are carried out exclusively with wheelchair accessible low-floor buses. On all other RegioBus lines, it is not possible to mark wheelchair-accessible journeys with low-floor buses all year round. In order to ensure that the desired journey is carried out by a low-floor vehicle with a ramp, it is therefore advisable to call the relevant depot at least 24 hours before the desired journey so that a suitable wheelchair-accessible vehicle can be used.

The range of express bus routes (Regiosprinter) was expanded by including and partially renaming existing routes for the timetable change in December 2019. There are now the lines 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800 and 900, these are called sprintH lines. In the future, only buses with increased comfort, including WiFi and USB charging sockets, will run on these lines.

NightLiner

There are 10 NachtLiner lines, all of which are operated by RegioBus. Most of them run from the end of the tram into the Hanover region. The former üstra NachtLiner was integrated into the normal bus routes and has been operating under the normal route number ever since.

history

In addition to the horse trams, various horse bus routes have also established themselves. During the First World War, the lines were closed due to a lack of horses. The inner-city bus network of Üstra was created from 1925 to supplement the tram lines . Bus routes were marked with letters. Bus lines that replaced former tram or trolleybus lines had the number of the replaced line with an O (O 15) in front . From 1937 Üstra operated the O 19 trolleybus line from Langenhagen, Berliner Platz to Langenhagen Reuterdamm. In 1949 it was extended to Lister Platz and renamed O 29. In 1958 the trolleybus traffic was converted to diesel buses.

In 1959 the following bus routes were operated:

Since the letters were no longer sufficient for the growing network of routes, a system with two-digit numbers was changed in the 1960s, with numbers from 20 to 69 being used (1-19: tram).

Bus traffic in the region was mainly operated by the Deutsche Bundesbahn , the Deutsche Bundespost , the Steinhuder Meer-Bahn (Wunstorf area) and the Bachstein transport company (Burgdorf area). These lines were not permitted to operate city traffic in Hanover.

The new Verkehrsverbund Großraum-Verkehr Hannover introduced a standardized numbering system for all modes of transport in 1970 : the first digit indicated the area in which the line operated, the second digit the line in this area and the third digit the mode of transport: Deutsche Bundesbahn 2 and 3, Deutsche Bundespost 4 and 5, Steinhuder Meer-Bahn and Verkehrsbetriebe Bachstein 6 and 7. At Üstra, the third digit (actually 0 and 1) was omitted, the line numbers remained two-digit.

In the course of the light rail construction, a central bus station (ZOB) was built northeast of the main train station in 1976 , where all regional bus routes now ended. Until then, train buses, post buses, overland lines from Üstra and private operators had different end points in the city center (train buses: Ernst-August-Platz, post buses: Raschplatz, at the location of the later central bus station). When new tram lines were opened, the parallel overland lines were shortened to the tram terminus, so that the ZOB lost its importance with every tram extension.

In September 1996, Üstra introduced a new bus network. According to studies by an economic consultancy, the number of lines was reduced, line routes were adapted to user requirements (more direct connections) and the distances between stops were reduced through additional stops. Overland lines were also given to Regiobus. The line numbers were consistently three-digit. The inner-city lines were given a 1 as the first position, supplementary lines a 2 . The other figures for the regional area were largely retained. In the following years there were also adjustments to the regional lines of the Regiobus. Here, too, the numbering system was revised: the first digit of the line number still indicated the area, main lines were given a 0 in the third digit , and newly established and accelerated regional sprinters to the city of Hanover were given hundreds of numbers: 300, 500, 700.

Tariff

In the area of the Hanover region , the tariff of the Greater Hanover Transport (GVH) applies. The area is divided into three ring-shaped tariff zones: A (Hanover city area), B (ring directly adjoining zone A) and C (outer ring). The single, daily, monthly and annual tickets are provided with the addition A, B, C, AB, BC or ABC depending on the zone usage. Short-haul tickets can also be used across zones. Tickets can be bought via an app , from machines and in some shops; Tickets for single journeys in shops, however, only as "collective tickets" (sets of 6 tickets).

There are also tariff regulations for some connections beyond the borders of the Hanover region. This affects the surrounding districts: Schaumburg district (RE60, RE70, S1), Nienburg district (RE1, RE8, S2), Heidekreis district (RB38), Celle district (RE2, S6, S7), Gifhorn district (RE30), Peine district (RE60, RE70), district of Hildesheim (RE2, RE10, RE50, RB77, RB79, S3, S4) and district of Hameln-Pyrmont (RB77, S5, S51). There it is possible to use the S and regional trains with certain GVH season tickets , for which the zone designations D, E and F are used. GVH tickets are not valid for single trips to, from and within these districts.

Before the tariff reform on January 1, 2020, the area of the Hanover region for season tickets "Cards" (monthly and weekly tickets) was divided into four tariff zones: Hanover 1, Hanover 2, surrounding area, region. In the case of tickets with a validity period of no more than one day "tickets" (single tickets, group tickets, day single tickets, day group tickets), zones Hanover 1 and 2 (together the city of Hanover) already formed a common zone at that time, so that "tickets" also there were only three tariff zones in the Hanover region before the reform.

"Free driving day": On November 30, 2019, public transport was offered free of charge in the entire tariff area on a trial basis.

Services

A total of 195 million people were carried in the Hanover metropolitan area in 2012, compared with 160 million in 2006. There are 1900 stops on seven S-Bahn lines, eight regional train lines, twelve light rail lines and 170 bus routes.

More local transport options

Public transport in Hanover with buses and trains complement taxis , the taxi OPERATION MOIA and the ships of Üstra- Maschsee waterways for which the GVH rates do not apply.

Limitations in connection with the corona epidemic since March 2020

Since March 16, 2020, some of the buses and trains in the GVH have not been running as specified in the annual timetable. The trams run according to a special schedule, the RegioBus according to the holiday schedule and the S-Bahn sometimes run less often and / or on a shorter route. The reduced capacity due to the thinner trains and sometimes shorter trains was criticized by the passengers. Since March 18, 2020, Üstra has been using longer trains again on some lines, including Line 5, which had never been fully operated with long trains before. Line 1 was broken, Y-traffic on lines 2 and 8 was canceled, with line 8 only running from Bothmerstraße to Messe / Nord at times. The buses ran according to the Saturday schedule.

After the first school opening at the beginning of May, Üstra further reduced the offer for a few days. The closing time was brought forward by about an hour and a half and the Sunday offer was significantly reduced.

Since May 11, 2020, the regular timetable has largely been used again. Scheduled school amplifiers and the night offer have not yet been run again, this will only be offered again from June 3rd and 5th.

The demand for public transport has decreased significantly.
