Steintor underground station

The Steintor underground station is an important underground station on the C-route of the Hanover city railway . It is located under the square of the same name in Hanover's Mitte district . To the west of the station, the C-North route branches off in the direction of Nordhafen and Halthoffstrasse from the C-West route in the direction of Stöcken and Garbsen . Lines 4, 5, 6 and 11 as well as event line 16 stop here.

history

The station opened on March 30, 1984. Initially, only line 1 ran here, which had its provisional end point behind the station. The C-West route was fully opened on June 2, 1985, and the C-North route followed on September 26, 1993.

Since the branch of the C-Nord from the C-West was not included in the original subway planning, the station was only built with two tracks and not, as is usual with such branching stations , with three tracks.

description

Station section C-line

At the western and eastern ends of the station, the station has two unconnected distribution levels on the -1 level, via which access to the platform level -2 below is made. The western entrance has escalators, the eastern entrance has escalators and elevators. However, the latter do not reach street level, so that people with reduced mobility can only reach them via a long ramp.

The next station to the east is Kröpcke , to the west it is on the C-west route Königsworther Platz and on the C-north route Christ Church .

Construction work on the D-route

On the -3 level there is another subway station, partially built in the shell, which was built as preliminary construction work for an originally planned fourth subway tunnel ( D tunnel ). The shell lies diagonally under the station section of the C-route and was only built across the width. It is therefore much smaller than the preliminary construction work for the D line under the Hauptbahnhof underground station .

The Hanover region , which is responsible for local transport planning, has now refrained from building the fourth tunnel. Instead, the route has been expanded above ground since 2015. This is to be achieved during the duration of the local transport plan from 2015 to 2019. The route has been leading to Raschplatz since September 2017 . Until then it had led to Aegidientorplatz. Instead of continuing to build the D-section of the subway station, a central elevated platform was built above ground in Münzstraße south of the Langen Laube by the end of 2018. The platform has a staircase leading to the western distribution level of the subway station. To the north of the elevated platform, at the foot of the ramp, there is the installation area (pedestrian island between the D-tracks), which also serves the crossing pedestrian traffic to the Lange Laube and Georgstraße and leads to the elevator between the street level and the western distribution level. An elevator should lead down from the distribution level to each of the platforms of the C-route.
