The Hannover-Leinhausen station is a stop of Category 5 on the railway line Hanover Wunstorf . It is located on the border between the Hanoverian districts of Leinhausen and Herrenhausen . Only trains of the Hanover S-Bahn have stopped here since 2000 .
history
The first stop at Leinhausen on the Hanover – Wunstorf line was established in 1887. It was a simple half-timbered building on the route that was still at ground level at the time. It is located near the former Leinhausen repair shop, which still exists today as a workshop for S-Bahn vehicles, and the associated housing estate (Colonie Leinhausen) .
The listed station building was designed in 1911 by the architect Gustav Bär. After completion of the Leine Bridge and the viaduct over Schaumburgstrasse in 1914, the station will have been fully operational at the end of 1914 or 1915 together with the former Hainhölzer station.
Today there is a music theater in the old train station. The house platform, which is no longer required for regular rail traffic, can still be used by special trains.
S-Bahn station
In 2000, on the occasion of the introduction of the Hanover S-Bahn, the line between Hanover and Seelze was extended to the north by two tracks. The old Leinhausen station was abandoned and a new S-Bahn station with a central platform and its own access was built.
