Antoine Pazur

Antoine Pazur (born January 3, 1931 in Aulnoye-Aymeries , † October 20, 2011 in Loches ) was a French football player .

Club career

The 179 centimeter tall defender Pazur ran from 1947 on for AS Aulnoye, which was based in his home municipality . From there, in 1950 , at the age of 19, he moved to the second division US Valenciennes-Anzin , where the player, mostly used as a right-back, quickly developed into a regular player. With the team, he made it into the national cup final in 1951 despite a mediocre performance in the league and was himself on the field in the 3-0 final defeat against RC Strasbourg . In 1952, promotion to the top national league was just missed. However, Pazur made the leap into the first division a little later when he moved to the first division club OSC Lille in December 1952 .

In Lille he was part of a successful team that won several titles in the 1950s. First, the team reached the cup final in 1953 and Pazur, who immediately after his arrival had fought for a regular place in the defensive row of the LOSC, won the trophy by beating FC Nancy 2-1 . In 1954 he was French champion with Lille. This was followed by a deep fall and the club barely escaped relegation in 1955. Parallel to the negative development in the league, the team made the leap to the cup final in 1955 and Pazur was able to claim the second win of this title thanks to the 5-2 win against Girondins Bordeaux . In 1956 the fall into the second division became a reality, but the player remained loyal to the club and made his contribution to the direct resurgence a year later. 1959 was followed by relegation, but the direct relegation failed clearly and Pazur also lost his regular place. In view of this, he ended his professional career in 1960 at the age of 29 after 135 first division games and 105 second division games, each without a goal.

National team

Pazur was 22 years old when he made his debut for the French national team on December 17, 1953 in an 8-0 win over Luxembourg . The qualifying game for the 1954 World Cup was his only use in his country's jersey. He had benefited from the fact that against the opponent, who was considered to be easy to beat, mainly young players were used. Despite his consideration for the encounter, he was then initially not listed as a national player, as the game was not played as an official international game by the French association, although it was even a competitive game. It was only forty years later that it was still recognized as such, with which Pazur subsequently moved up into the circle of national players together with Jean-Pierre Kress , Jean Desgranges and Marius Bruat .
