The All Saints Church

The All Saints Church is located in the district town of Mühlhausen in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia and is now a museum .

history

The location of the former smallest medieval parish church was and is the Untere Steinweg in Mühlhausen. It was built as atonement for the Palatinate Church, which was destroyed in 1256, until 1287. It was not mentioned again until 1525 in connection with Thomas Müntzer and the citizen opposition . In 1685, after a long period of abstinence, services were held in it. It burned down in 1689 and was then rebuilt in the baroque style with an increased church tower . After being abolished as a parish , the church fell into disrepair around 1900.

Restoration of the church

Restoration work from 1985 to 1989 brought the building back its prestige and a new task. With this result, the city of Mühlhausen handed over the building to the Mühlhausen museums for use. Until 2010 there was a museum gallery on Thuringian art of the 20th century. Since then the All Saints Church has been closed due to construction-related conversion.

The monument

In front of the church there is also a bronze sculpture by Heinrich Pfeiffer , a companion of the reformer Thomas Müntzer .
