Antoine Portail
Antoine Portail (* 1675 in Paris ; † May 3, 1736 ibid) was a French politician and member of the Académie française . He should not be confused with the Abbé Antoine Portail (1590–1660), collaborator of St. Vincent de Paul .
life and work
Antoine Portail was the son-in-law of Toussaint Rose , a member of the Académie française. The lawyer Portail, famous for his eloquence, earned merit as a high civil servant under Louis XIV and his successor, which earned him the office of Supreme Judge in 1724 and, without any noteworthy writings, seat No. 17 in the Académie française. He was the owner of the castle of Le Vaudreuil .
