Joseph-Antoine-Jean Redier (born December 25, 1817 in Perpignan , † December 30, 1892 in Paris ) was a French watchmaker and inventor .

Life

Redier attended the watchmaking school in Paris and invented a compass with a special equidistant circle division (1835).

In 1847 the alarm clock and pendulum clocks, so-called "huitaines", were invented, which created a real revolution in watchmaking.

He was made a Knight in 1863 and an Officer of the Legion of Honor in 1878 .

Antoine Redier was married twice. He left a wife and 14 children.
