The Anton Proksch-Hof is a council in the 19th Vienna district Döbling . It was built between 1954 and 1956 and comprises 398 apartments. The residential complex was named after the politician Anton Proksch in 1982 .

location

The Anton Proksch-Hof is located in the east of Döbling in the cadastral community of Grinzing , with the majority of the facility on the northern slope of the Hungerberg . The residential complex extends from Grinzinger Strasse in the north to Haubenbiglstrasse in the north. Parts of the residential complex comprising 42 staircases are located in the streets of Neugebauerweg, Huleschgasse and Reimersgasse in this area. The official address of the residential complex is Grinzinger Straße 54.

History and architecture

The area around today's residential complex was used for agriculture for a long time. The residential complex was built between 1954 and 1956, with the residential buildings in the lower part of the complex near Grinzinger Straße being planned by a team of architects Fritz Grunberger, Jakob Unterberger and Anton Valentin . The architects Norbert Laad, Otto Niedermoser , Hans Petermair and Fritz Reichart created the southern part of the complex .

The architects distributed the houses parallel or at right angles to one another on the site, with the individual residential buildings consistently having a maximum of three floors. The facades of the buildings were kept simple, only the windows were made with plaster bottles. Only some of the windows are in flat, bay-like wall templates. In addition, some of the buildings have balconies and roof structures. In contrast to the closed buildings from the interwar period, the complex was laid out in an open form, which also has numerous open spaces and green areas as well as additions for social facilities.

In the year 2000 to 2001 the windows and doors were renewed, whereby this measure cost 770,000 euros.

Works of art

The Anton Proksch-Hof was furnished with numerous works of art, with house facades in particular being adorned with mosaics that serve as house symbols. The mosaics "Tempelhupfen" and "Bub und Schneemann" were created by Roman Haller from 1954 to 1955 , Mea Bratusch designed the mosaics "Kinderfreibad", "Schule" and "Spielende Kinder" in 1954. The mosaics "Flying Dragons" and "Playing Children" by Marianne Neugebauer also date from 1954, and in 1954 and 1955 mosaics of playing children were created by Luka Bojin and Herbert Schütz .

Also located at the bottom of the residential complex next to the building Grinzinger Straße 54 the stone sculpture "lion couple" by Herbert Schwarz in 1954, at the staircase of the High observatory was also a resulting 1955 to 1960 stone sculpture by Erich Pieler established that a "Mother and Child" shows. The ceramic mosaic “Work in the Vineyard” by Hilde Prinz (1955/56) and the sgraffito image “Sun with Zodiac Signs” by Richard Exler (1955/57) can also be found on the façades of Reimersgasse . In addition, Hubert Wilfan designed ceramic orientation plans (1955/59) and Josef Schagerl and Walter Leitner created the two play sculptures "Slide" (1955/56) and "Fox" (1954/55).
