The Anton-Schrammel-Hof is a community building at Kopalgasse 55-61 in Vienna's 11th district Simmering .
history
In the interwar period in Red Vienna , numerous communal residential buildings were built, especially in the outlying districts of Favoriten and Simmering, which were inhabited by many workers . The Anton-Schrammel-Hof was built from 1925 to 1926 based on designs by the architect Karl Krist . It was renovated from 1992 to 1994, including replacing the windows and doors and connecting it to the district heating system . The community building is named after the unionist Anton Schrammel.
Architecture and design
The residential complex, which comprises 257 apartments and is listed ( list entry ), is bordered by Kopalgasse and Meichlstraße and in the area of a shared inner courtyard by a residential block built in 1913 to the west. At the eastern end of the complex, where Kopalgasse and Meichlstrasse meet at an acute angle, there is a restaurant with a garden. In Kopalgasse there is a small street courtyard and a party bar. The middle of the three courtyards has a children's playground.
A stylistic element used by Karl Krist in other community buildings are pointed arches in the area of the gate systems and the doors and windows of alleyways. In addition, due to the topographical conditions, in its entirety there are rather irregular-looking residential elements such as bay windows, gables and pinnacles. The residential complex was renovated from 1993 to 1994. There is a memorial plaque for Anton Schrammel in a courtyard entrance. Next to one of the entrance gates there is a memorial plaque commemorating the eleven Jewish tenants who were driven out of the house by the National Socialists in 1938.
In the eastern street gusset , which still belongs to the grounds of the courtyard, there are two plane trees , which are classified as natural monuments due to their appearance ( list entry ).
