Anton Damm (born April 20, 1874 in Wagenschwend , † October 4, 1962 there ) was a German politician (center). He was a member of the German Reichstag from 1920 to 1932 and was also mayor of Wagenschwend from 1909 until the National Socialists came to power in 1933, where he was made an honorary citizen in 1957.

Live and act

Damm was born the son of a cooper. After attending elementary school in Wagenschwend from 1880 to 1888, Damm was trained as a cooper and farmer in his parents' company in Wagenschwend. From 1890 to 1894 Damm worked as a cooper in Mannheim , Mainz , Cologne , Potsdam , Zurich and Würzburg. From 1894 to 1896 he was a member of Infantry Regiment No. 109 in Würzburg. In 1897 Damm took over his parents' property. In 1905 he became a councilor in Wagenschwend. From 1909 to 1933 he was mayor of Wagenschwend. From 1910 to 1914 Damm was a district councilor, from 1919 a district councilor.

In the Reichstag elections of June 1920 Damm was a candidate of the Center for the constituency 35 (Baden) in the Reichstag elected. After his mandate was confirmed in the following four Reichstag elections, Damm was a member of the German parliament for almost twelve years from June 1920 to July 1932. Because the constituencies were renumbered in 1924, Damms constituency represented constituency 32.

Damm had been defamed by the National Socialist Heidelberg observer as early as 1931 and was ousted from the office of Wagenschwender mayor after the National Socialists came to power. The local council, which was brought into line, even refused to pay a pension, which Damm only had to fight for in a lengthy legal dispute. After 1933 he hired himself, among other things, as a representative for mass wine, after July 20, 1944 arrest warrants were issued against him several times.

After the Second World War he was one of the founders of the local CDU. In 1957 he was made an honorary citizen of Wagenschwend on the occasion of his diamond wedding.
