Anton Eduard Kieldrup
Anton Eduard Kieldrup , also Anton Edvard Kiedrup (born February 16, 1826 in Hadersleben , then Duchy of Schleswig , † May 22, 1869 in Copenhagen , Kingdom of Denmark ), was a 19th century Danish landscape painter .
Life
Kieldrup was the son of a ship's master and learned the painting trade in his hometown. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen from 1845 to 1847. He began his first exhibition of landscapes in 1849 after he had made a study trip to Norway in 1847/1848 . In 1851 and 1852 he received scholarships from the Art Academy for further study trips. He spent 1858 and 1859 in Munich at his own expense. The results of this stay were exhibited the following year and so inspired art lovers in Copenhagen that he received an Academic Travel Grant from the Academy. The trip took him to Düsseldorf over the winter of 1863/1864 and influenced his further work in terms of color and choice of themes.
Kieldrup belonged to the young generation of landscape painters. He freed himself from the influences of his predecessors as a landscape painter and depicted the nature of his homeland in fresh colors and not arranged.
Kieldrup was married. He was buried in the Copenhagen Garrison Cemetery.
