Anton Harrer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anton Harrer (* 1817 in Landshut ; † 1885 ) was a German draftsman, architect and Bavarian construction clerk who built several large buildings in the spirit of historicism in the styles of neo-Romanesque , neo-Gothic and neo-renaissance in southern Germany .

Life

Harrer was based in his main places of activity, initially in Munich and in the 1850s in Lindau.

In Lindau, under Anton Harrer, the city's first train station, the main customs office and the new port facility with lighthouse and the memorial of the Bavarian lion were built between 1846 and 1856. The designs for the reception building were created by Eduard Rüber , known as the Bavarian “train station architect” of this era , who also worked on the interior design of Harrer's flagship project, the Villa Leuchtenberg in Lindau-Reutin.

Anton Harrer also excelled in drafting altars and pulpits and was the author of training materials for craftsmen and construction professionals. In her dissertation, Claudia Grund devoted herself to the role of Anton Harrer in the scientific and pictorial recording of church furniture and his particular interest in the art of altar architecture in the Middle Ages.
