Anton Hoffmann (painter)
Anton Hoffmann (born April 10, 1863 in Bayreuth ; † January 26, 1938 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber ) was a German painter, illustrator, military scientist and university professor.
After nine years of service in the Bavarian Army , Hoffmann went to the Munich Art Academy in 1889 , where he became a student of Gabriel von Hackl and Wilhelm von Diez . He completed his studies there in 1895. Since 1896 he exhibited regularly in the Glass Palace . As a painter he showed himself to be a loyal Diez student and put his focus on history and military painting. Characteristic of his style were lifelike, powerful tones applied with generous, broad, but restless brushes and a light that was focused on what was happening in the center.
As an army scientist, Hoffmann drew several series on the uniform history of the Bavarian Army. In addition, as a member of the Süddeutscher Illustratorenbund, he also created numerous illustrations for school books, youth literature, history books and the flying sheets . He also made five autotypes for Karl Mays' story Die Umm ed Dschamahl , which appeared in the Regensburg Marien-Kalender in 1899 . In 1905 he was one of the winners in the competition for advertising drafts for joint advertising by Ludwig Stollwerck and Otto Henkell .
