Anton Karinger
Anton Karinger (born November 23, 1829 in Laibach ; † March 14, 1870 ibid) was an Austro-Slovenian officer and landscape painter.
Karinger studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1845 under Franz Steinfeld , then from November 14, 1847 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Albert Emil Kirchner .
Karinger served as an officer in the Austro-Hungarian army from 1849 to 1861 in Montenegro and Dalmatia , since 1850 as a lieutenant. Only after completing his career as an officer did he return to Laibach and devote the last nine years of his life to landscape painting. He made many study trips through Slovenia and to Tyrol, Carinthia and Bavaria. He also painted portraits and cityscapes on the side. Karinger died at the age of 41.
