Anton Matthäus the Fourth (* 1672 in Utrecht ; † September 26, 1719 ) was a Dutch legal scholar .

Life

Anton Matthäus came from a family of lawyers, his father was also called Anton . Anton Matthäus the Fourth studied law at the University of Utrecht , one of his teachers there was his father. In 1702 he was given a professorship in law at the Atheneum in Deventer . In addition, he took care of the construction of a new church in Diepenven . It is reported that he had a good memory and knew many laws by heart. He married Judina van Hurck and died on September 26, 1719 without having published a work. Yudina married a second time, Dionysius Roëll . After he died too, she had a memorial erected in the mountain church in Deventer for her two deceased husbands .

Anton Matthäus' son of the same name, the fifth Anton in the family, died in childhood and thus the male side of the Matthäus family died out.
