Anton Ohlig

Anton Ohlig (born March 5, 1872 in Rübenach ; † August 5, 1933 in Rüdesheim am Rhein ) was a sparkling wine producer and founded the Rheingau sparkling wine cellar Ohlig & Co / today Rüdesheimer Sektkellerei OHLIG GmbH and Co. KG with Wilhelm Heymach .

After graduating from high school in 1891, the farmer's son studied wine, fruit, horticulture and cellar management at the Royal Institute for Fruit and Wine Growing in Geisenheim (today Geisenheim University ) from 1892 to 1896 . After completing his studies, he worked as a cellar master in the first German champagne factory, Ewald & Dietrich (founded in 1858). On May 10, 1901, he married Gertrude Stromberg. During the First World War he was friends with the Rüdesheim delicatessen dealer Wilhelm Heymach. This supplied the German troops on the western front . Together, the two of them came up with the idea of ​​offering self-made sparkling wine and planned to set up their own sparkling wine cellar. The foundation is dated October 1, 1919. His third descendant, Nikolaus, called Niko, Ohlig took over the Sektkellerei Ohlig after the death of his father and moved with her to Rüdesheimer Kaiserstraße 4a in 1953.
