Anton Pomp (born June 13, 1888 in Aachen ; † October 19, 1953 ibid) was a German metallurgist and professor at RWTH Aachen University .

Life

Anton Pomp, the son of a savings bank director, studied metallurgy at the TH Aachen from 1907 to 1912. After completing his diploma thesis, he was taken on as assistant to Fritz Wüst at the same institute . From 1914 onwards he gained practical experience in the private sector for a number of years, initially at Felten & Guilleaume Carlswerk AG in Cologne. In the meantime he received his doctorate in 1916 in Aachen bei Wüst with the topic: “ Influence of heat treatment on the notch toughness, grain size and hardness of low-carbon fluids ”. From 1921 he moved to the Hoesch AG owned steel and iron works Döhner AG in Letmathe as operations manager .

In 1924 he followed a call to the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute (KWI) for iron research founded by his former teacher Fritz Wüst and initially attached to RWTH Aachen University , which moved to Düsseldorf in 1921 and became the Max Planck Institute for iron research from 1946 was conducted. Here he worked as head of the mechanical and metallographic department until 1946 and has since been taken on as a scientific member of the KWI for iron research from 1929. At the same time, he also took up an offer from the Clausthal mining academy , at which he first completed his habilitation in 1931 and then taught as a private lecturer for rolling mill technology and iron processing, and one year later as an honorary professor.

Finally, in 1946, Pomp moved back to Aachen, where he was taken over by the RWTH as professor for metal deformation and as director of the Institute for Plastic Forming . Here he taught and researched until his death in 1953.

Pomp distinguished himself as the author of more than 140 scientific publications, most of which were published by the “Verlag Stahleisen”. A detailed bibliography can be found in the DNB catalog (see GND entry).
