Anton Probst

Anton Probst (born December 8, 1890 in Hornstein , † April 22, 1949 in Eisenstadt ) was an Austrian master shoemaker and politician ( SDAP ). Probst was married, a member of the Burgenland Landtag and a member of the National Council .

Anton Probst was born as the son of the tailor Franz Probst from Hornstein. He grew up in a Burgenland-Croatian family and attended vocational school after primary school. Probst learned the trade of a master shoemaker and subsequently worked as a master shoemaker in Hornstein. Probst was also the head of consumer goods in Hornstein and chairman of the Hornsteiner Weinbauverein. He also held the office of mayor of the municipality between 1924 and 1934. In the Social Democratic Workers' Party, Probst was a member of the state party executive between 1922 and 1934 and, from 1929, district party chairman of the Eisenstadt district.

Probst was a member of the Burgenland Landtag between November 13, 1923 and May 20, 1927. He was also a member of the National Council from May 18, 1927 to February 17, 1934, but lost his mandate in the course of the suppression of the February fights in 1934 and the subsequent ban on the Social Democratic Workers' Party during the time of Austrofascism under Engelbert Dollfuss , which was supported by the subsequent Nazi regime in Austria was taken over.
