Anton Schaller (gynecologist)

Anton Schaller (born December 15, 1933 in Vienna ) is an Austrian gynecologist and obstetrician .

Live and act

Anton Schaller was after his medical degree in 1959 graduated . After several years as an assistant at the anatomical institute of the University of Vienna and completing the required counter subjects in the winter semester of 1964/65, he began his training at the II. University Women's Clinic in Vienna and, after being recognized as a specialist in 1969 , he completed his habilitation in 1976 at the University of Vienna in the field Gynecology and Obstetrics. In 1988 Anton Schaller was appointed associate professor. After the 1st and 2nd University Women's Clinics were merged in 1993 to form the University Clinic for Gynecology , Schaller was a member of the Department of Prenatal Diagnostics and Therapy until he retired in 1999.

research

Anton Schaller published around 120 gynecological - mainly surgical and obstetric papers; Added to this are the monographs (see below) and several textbook and manual contributions. He was particularly interested in teratology in the field of obstetrics and the history of gynecology. He saw an important task in connection with the latter in the preservation of the cultural assets and the old instruments of the two traditional Viennese gynecological clinics.

Honor

In 1978, Schaller was awarded the Silver Medal of Honor by the Austrian Medical Association. In the same year he received a recognition diploma for his ten-year organization of the Obergurgl gynecological and obstetric training congresses. In 2000 he was made an honorary member by the Austrian Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics .
