Anton Schrammen

Anton Schrammen (born July 12, 1869 in Rheinbach , † April 6, 1953 in Hildesheim ) was a German palaeontologist and dentist in Hildesheim. He was an expert on fossil sponges and cephalopods.

In 1911 he received his doctorate in Tübingen with a thesis on Cretaceous sponges (results of my work on the Cretan sponges of north-west Germany). He collected them mainly in Höver and described over 200 new species. Schrammen established the Lychniskida order .

He also worked on ceratites of the German shell limestone and created many new genera, which were taken over by Leonard Spath and later classified as sub-genera by Rolf Wenger. Newer tendencies aim at a further reduction ( Max Urlichs , Siegfried Rein ).

In 1912 he became a member of the Paleontological Society in the founding year. Parts of his collection are in the Roemer Museum in Hildesheim (in whose publications he published a lot) and in museums worldwide (American Museum of Natural History, University of Göttingen).
