Antoni Gelabert
Antoni Gelabert i Massot (born June 13, 1877 in Palma de Mallorca , † January 22, 1932 in Deià ) was a Mallorcan painter .
Gelabert was born the son of a hairdresser in Palma. At the age of 15, after the early death of his father, he had to run the family business and provide for his mother and sister financially. In addition to his work, he attended the private drawing school Escola de Dibuix in the Consolat de la Mar in Palma. He was self-taught and tried mainly to follow the works of the Catalan painter Santiago Rusiñol i Prats . His works represent an excerpt from modernism . He mainly painted regional landscapes of Mallorca with a predominance of dark tones. His pathological sensitivity and perhaps his social status finally led him to suicide in early 1932 .
Some of his works are exhibited in the Es Baluard Museum in Palma de Mallorca .
