Antonia Peters (born March 16, 1958 in Hamburg ) is a German author and mental health activist.

Live and act

After training to be a nanny (1977) and an educator (1980), Peters worked in this professional field in part in management positions until she retired early in 1998.

In 1999 she was elected to the board of the German Society for Obsessive Compulsive Diseases as the first victim of obsessive-compulsive disorder ( trichotillomania ) . She has been chairwoman of the association since 2004. In 2008 her book Trichotillomania: Questions and Answers on Compulsive Hair Pulling was published by Pabst Verlag, the first German self-help guide on this subject. Since 2010, Peters has been educating people about mental illnesses in schools for the Hamburg association Irre Mensch . She has contributed to various media articles on the subject of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

In March 2020 she was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit for her diverse social commitment beyond her work for the German Society for Obsessive Compulsive Diseases .

Peters lives in her native Hamburg.
