Antonín Rükl

Antonín Rükl (born September 22, 1932 in Čáslav , Czechoslovakia ; † July 11/12, 2016 ) was a Czech astronomer , cartographer and non-fiction author .

Life

As a student he began to be interested in astronomy. In 1956 he graduated from the Technical University in Prague and then worked in the astronomical department at the Prague Geodesy Institute .

From 1960 he worked in the Prague Planetarium , becoming deputy director and then head of the facility. He also became chairman of the planetary section of the Czechoslovak Astronomical Association. From 1996 until his retirement in 1999 he was Vice President of the International Planetarium Directors Conference .

Rükl was the author of several astronomical books. He acquired great skills in the field of cartography and especially selenography . His best known work is the moon atlas .

Rükl was married and had two children.
