Antonio Azpiri Nadal (* around 1912 in Orizaba , Veracruz , † after 1947 in Mexico City ), also known by the nickname Toño (a shortened form of his first name), was a Mexican football player who played in defense . With 13 international appearances, which he completed between 1934 and 1938, he was a record Mexican national player before the outbreak of the Second World War .
Life
In the 1930s, Azpiri was part of the successful Necaxa team known as Once Hermanos , which won four championship titles between 1933 and 1938. At least in the first two championship titles (1933 and 1935) Azpiri was demonstrably involved, as the Libro de Oro del Fútbol Mexicano reveals. According to the RSSSF database , he was also a member of the championship squad of the 1936/37 and 1937/38 seasons, which is also confirmed elsewhere in the Libro de Oro del Fútbol Mexicano , where his move to Club America before the 1943/44 season with Necaxa's refusal is justified to participate in the newly introduced professional league .
Towards the end of his playing career, Azpiri went back to his hometown of Orizaba and has proven to play for the UD Moctezuma between 1944 and 1947 , with whom he won the Cup and the Supercup in 1947 .
