Antonio Bibalo
Antonio Bibalo (born January 18, 1922 in Trieste , † June 19, 2008 in Larvik ) was a composer and pianist of Italian descent who lived in Norway .
Bibalo was drafted into military service by the Italian army during World War II and ended up in military prison when he tried to desert. He was captured by the American army at the Battle of Monte Cassino and came to the United States as a prisoner of war. After 1946 he completed his studies in Trieste with a diploma and then worked, in the hope of a better job, as a bar pianist in Marseille , he also served a time in the French Foreign Legion in Oman . He then went on to study in London before moving to Norway in 1956, where he obtained Norwegian citizenship in 1968.
Bibalo composed operas , ballets , vocal music , symphonies and chamber music . He was awarded the Saint Olav Order and was honored with the Lindeman Prize in 1992.
