Antonio Brunelli
Antonio Brunelli (born December 20, 1577 in Pisa , † November 19, 1630 ibid) was an Italian Kapellmeister , music theorist and composer of the early Baroque.
He studied with Giovanni Maria Nanino and worked from 1604 to 1607 as the organist of San Miniato ( Tuscany ). Then he moved to Prato and became maestro di capella at the local cathedral . On April 12, 1612 he became maestro di capella with the Grand Duke of Tuscany. Between 1605 and 1621 he published works that included motets, canzonets, psalm settings , madrigals, requien and other sacred works, some of which were published in Donfried's Promptuarium musicum (1623). Brunelli wrote and published several theoretical treatises. Particularly noteworthy is the Regole utilissime per i scolari che desiderano imperare a cantare (Florence, 1606), which was one of the first vocal pedagogical works. His other writings are Esercizi ad 1 e 2 voci (Florence, 1607) and Regole et dichiarazione de alcuni contrappunti doppii (Florence, 1610).
