Antonio Carro Martínez

Antonio Carro Martínez (born May 3, 1923 in Lugo , † April 10, 2020 in Madrid ) was a Spanish politician and Minister of State from 1974 to 1975.

Antonio Carro Martínez made a career in the dictatorship under General Franco . On January 3, 1974, he took over the post of Spanish Minister of State, which he held until December 11, 1975. During the Green March , Franco, who was already seriously ill, temporarily charged him with leading the negotiations with Morocco .

Carro Martínez had close ties to the Tácitos group, which sought peaceful reforms . After Franco's death on November 20, 1975, he campaigned for this group with Prime Minister Carlos Arias Navarro . Several members of the group were given functions in the second tier of government.

Carro Martínez later joined the right-wing conservative Alianza Popular, founded in 1976 .
